Fiorentina close in on Monterrey defender

Fiorentina are expected to finalize the transfer of Monterrey defender Jose Basanta by the end of the week.

The 30 year old featured for Argentina at this summer’s World Cup, and has been a loyal servant for the Mexican club since joining them in 2008 from Estudiantes.

According to Mexican paper record.mx, the deal that will see Basanta transferred to the Viola should be completed in the next 48 hours.

Fiorentina will reportedly pay Monterrey a fee of €3.5 million to take the defender off the Mexican club’s books.

Basanta made two appearances for Argentina at the World Cup, filling in at left back for Alejando Sabella’s side.
