Chelsea defender Ashley Cole is close to completing a move to Roma after holding talks with the Italian club.

The 33-year-old is a free agent after ending his eight-year spell with Chelsea this summer and has been linked strongly with a number of European clubs and MLS franchises.

However, it has now been revealed Cole is likely to sign a two-year contract with the Giallorossi with the deal set to be finalized on Monday according to Sky Sport Italia.

These developments spell an end to a glittering career for Cole in England during which he won three Premier League titles, seven FA Cups and a Champions League with Chelsea in 2012.

He has won 107 caps for England but was controversially omitted from Roy Hodgson’s squad for the World Cup and has since announced his international retirement.
