Inter defender Hugo Campagnaro could make a shock return to Sampdoria, as coach Sinisa Mihajlovic looks to reshape his squad for the new season.

Campagnaro, who was an unused substitute in the World Cup final for Argentina, has been linked with a move away from current club Inter all summer, despite only joining from Napoli a year ago, and Sampdoria have now joined the likes of Roma in monitoring the defender’s situation.

According to La Gazetta dello Sport, the Blucerchiati are after a big name signing to lay a marker down for the coming season, with former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato being linked with a move, but it seems that Mihajlovic wishes to strengthen his defence first and Campagnaro has been pinpointed as an ideal signing.

At the age of thirty four Campagnaro would not command a massive transfer fee as Inter seem willing to release the player, which would be appealing to Sampdoria, and with players like Pato and a return for Antonio Cassano expected to costly, a cut-price deal could be made.
