Juventus president Andrea Agnelli has launched an attack on outgoing Italy coach Cesare Prandelli as well as former FIGC president Giancarlo Abete.

Following the Azzuri’s first round exit from the 2014 World Cup, both Prandelli and Abete resigned from their posts amidst calls for widespread reform in the Italian game and Agnelli has hit out at them for their decision.

“Abete and Prandelli walked away at the time when we needed them most. I see that Prandelli is already in a happy marriage in Turkey, where the tax burden is much lower,” Agnelli told Sky Sport Italia.

“Abete? I do not thank him for abandoning us in our hour of need.”

Agnelli also took the opportunity to explain his opposition to Carlo Tavecchio, president of the amateur league, and tabbed as the likely successor.

“We need a strong character. He does not have the proper gravitas (to be president of the FIGC). He’s not like [Michel] Platini or [Karl-Heinz]Rummenigge.”
