Kaka has opted out of his deal with AC Milan and will formally sign with Orlando City SC of Major League Soccer this week.

The Brazilian will fly to Orlando on Monday and sign a contract with the MLS side, then report to his home club of Sao Paulo for a six month loan. The team will hold a press conference and rally on Tuesday.

Speaking to Milan Channel after the announcement, Kaka reiterated that he had always wanted to play in the U.S.

“I took these vacation days to think,” the Brazilian said. “I always said I wanted to play one day in America and now I have reached an agreement to play there.

“Orlando City is a new team, with a nice design and has a Brazilian as an owner.

“My choice is not linked to the fact that Milan has not played in the Champions League, this is another type of project.”

Additionally, Kaka announced that he would no longer wear his famous number 22 in either of his new clubs.

The midfielder won the 2007 Ballon d’Or with Milan but left the club in 2009 for Real Madrid before returning to Serie A this season.

He has won a World Cup with Brazil as well as a scudetto in 2003 and a Champions League title in 2007.

Milan wanted Kaka to return but he was able to opt out of his contract due to the Rossonerri failing to make the Champions League.

Orlando City is a new MLS franchise expected to begin play in 2015 alongside New York City FC.
