Napoli are continuing their pursuit to land Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini on loan for the new season.

United’s €34 million signing from last summer is reportedly close to the exit door after new boss Louis Van Gaal deemed him surplus to requirements.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Naples club are interested in taking the player on a season-long loan with the option to buy him permanently at the end of the campaign.

Napoli have reportedly already held talks with representatives of United over a move for him but negotiations stalled over Fellaini’s wage demands and United’s valuation of the player- believed to be approximately at least €20 million.

Napoli are actively looking to recruit midfielders with the expected departure of Valon Behrami and the possible sale of Blerim Dzemaili.

The club remain hopeful of securing the services of Fellaini but United are thought to be more inclined to selling him and raising funds for the purchase of replacements.

Fellaini failed to shine in a difficult first campaign for United and the club are now reportedly content with letting the 26-year-old leave.
