Chievo have signed former Napoli defender Alessandro Gamberini on a two-year deal with an option of a third.

Gamberini spent last season on loan at Genoa, but only made ten appearances for the Ligurian side. The 32-year-old will be paired with defender Dario Dainelli and spoke of his excitement to play next to the Italian.

“I’m fine, although I started preparing two weeks ago,” Gamberini told Sky Sport Italia.

“I come here with a lot of enthusiasm, because I was flatted by Chievo. The club had so much interest in me and I’m honoured to be a part of the project.

“With Dario Dainelli, I have a special relationship that goes beyond football. I’m glad to have him as a companion.”

Gamberini had been considering a move to English side Leeds United who are now owned by former Cagliari president Massimo Cellino. However, the defender decided to against playing in the English second tier.
