Brazil captain Thiago Silva has revealed the 2014 World Cup has kept him up at night with the weight of expectation on his shoulders.

The tournament hosts followed up their 7-1 mauling at the hands of Germany with a miserable 3-0 to loss to the Netherlands in the third place play-off.

“The main feeling is frustration,” stated the former AC Milan defender to reporters.

“We dreamed of this World Cup and I had sleepless nights thinking about it.”

“We did not deserve to end it like this.

“The sorrow is too great, to go home and know that you failed,” a shell-shocked Silva concluded.

The 29 year-old has received the bulk of the criticism with detractors questioning his leadership qualities and his absence during the semi-final against Germany due to a suspension picked up against Colombia.
