Antonello Valentini, director general of the FIGC has spoken about the possibility of the San Siro hosting the 2016 Champions League final.

The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza – commonly known as the San Siro – last hosted the final in 2001, with Bayern Munich lifting the trophy, defeating Valencia on penalties. Now the 80,000-seater stadium is believed to be favourite to host the final of the world’s biggest club competition again in two years time.

Speaking to Sky, Valentini said: “It’s up to UEFA to decide. We have presented our bid, and we believe Milan has all the credentials to host the final. We are very confident.”

Valentini also spoke about the draws facing Serie A’s representatives in this season’s Champions League:

“We have only two teams (in the group stages) and there is big regret for Napoli. As for the draw, Roma has the toughest task because they were not in the first pot.”

Roma were drawn in the so-called “Group of Death” alongside Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich, English Premier League champions Manchester City, and Russian champions CSKA Moscow.

Juventus will face last year’s runner-up and La Liga winners Atletico Madrid, as well as Olympiakos of Greece, and Swedish outfit Malmo.
