It is heavily rumoured that Giancarlo Antognoni will be appointed team manager of the Italian National Team.

Antognoni would be taking over the position from Luigi Riva, who as previous team manager but resigned in 2013, and was involved with the 2006 World Cup winning Italian side.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Antognoni has been contacted by the Italian Football Federation [FIGC] as to whether he would be interested in the role.

It is suggested that an official appointment may soon follow.

Antognoni played most of his career at Fiorentina, winning the Coppa Italia for the club in 1975. He would later captain La Viola before moving to Switzerland to eventually retire with FC Lausanne-Sport. He was also a part of the 1982 World Cup winning Italian team, however, missed the final due to injury.
