Atalanta drew 0-0 with Hellas Verona on Sunday evening at the Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.

After a fairly uneventful first half both Atalanta and Hellas Verona failed to convert chances in the second half as both sides were held to a 0-0 draw in their respective starts to the 2014/15 Serie A campaigns.

Verona began the first half dominating in possession, but were unable to provide any real threat against Atalanta keeper Marco Sportiello.

No real action took place until the 21st minute when Verona captain Luca Toni had the first real chance of the half after nearly catching Sportiello off his footing as he blasted a shot inches away from the crossbar.

Verona would continue to press the Atalanta defense when just minutes later Bosko Jankovic would waste a brilliant opportunity failing to convert after driving a shot straight at Sportiello from just 12 yards out.

In the 35th minute Emil Halfreðsson received the first booking of the match after picking up a yellow for his dangerous challenge on Atalanta midfielder Luca Cigarini.

At the end of the first half Atalanta would get their best chance to take the lead after Boukary Drame delivered a wonderful cross past Verona keeper Rafael although no one was there to tap it in.

Atalanta came out attacking in the second half with Maximiliano Moralez producing a brilliant effort on net that was stopped by Rafael.

Toni would again get another glorious opportunity to register his first goal of the season at the 60th minute but the 37-year-old failed to produce after heading the ball wide from a well delivered corner.

In the 86th minute Atalanta would waste a glorious opportunity of their own to take the lead with loanee Richmond Boakye awkwardly taking a cross with his hand before heading the ball directly on net.

Atalanta had sporadic chances as the game edged towards its end but it was Hellas Verona who looked the more likely to go ahead with Jankovic and Toni pressing the Nerazzurri defence.
