Barcelona are still highly interested in signing Fiorentina’s Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado despite rumours of strong interest from Manchester United.

Having had a stellar season in Italy, Cuadrado seems set to make a move elsewhere, with Barcelona currently beating Manchester United to his signing. It’s believed that if Louis Van Gaal were to tempt Cuadrado to England he would return to the position of an attacking wingback, while he may be granted a more advanced, position should he join Barcelona.

At the press conference following the presentation of newly signed defender Thomas Vermaelen, Barcelona’s sporting director Andoni Zubizaretta was asked about the potential signing of Cuadrado.

“For now let’s enjoy what we have and see how it goes. The club is happy, but if we can improve our squad then we will.”

Having already signed six players this window, spending €175m, the capture of Cuadrado would complete Barcelona’s highest spending spree to date as coach Luis Enrique looks to rebuild their squad.

Cuadrado, who joined Fiorentina from relegated Lecce two years ago, has been a right winger for Fiorentina, but can also be played as a right wingback.
