Inter defender Hugo Campagnaro wants to stay at the club, despite rumours that he is close to leaving for Sampdoria.

The 34-year-old Argentinian international’s future has been thrown in doubt this summer, with the club apparently keen to let him go.

Campagnaro’s agent Alejandro Mazzoni however spoke to fcinternews.it insisting that his client wants to remain in Milan.

“I spoke with Hugo, and I can definitely say that he does not want to go to Genoa. It was a personal conversation,” Mazzoni said.

“In any case, he prefers Sampdoria. I can tell you that there might be an agreement between Inter and Sampdoria, but no one has spoken to him.

“There is nothing official at the moment. Hugo does not want to leave Inter. If it was up to him, he would remain.

Obviously it is the club that wants to give him away and there are clubs who want him, which is pleasing.

“He has played at the World Cup, he is an Argentine international.

“I know that Hugo is also liked by Simeone, but then there are talks of budget and salary issues Atletico have to deal with.

At the moment, however, I know nothing of [interest from] Juventus. I can tell you that Conte wanted him, but then it all came to nothing.”
