Former Atalanta defender Mario Yepes has turned down a move to Sampdoria and looks set to move back to South America.

The 38-year-old center-back signed a one year contract with La Dea at the start of the 2013/2014 and made 24 appearances.

According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, Yepes wanted 48 hours to think over a move to the the Blucerchiati after an agreement in principle was reached between his agent and the Genoa club.

After a week and no news on a deal it now looks he has had a change of mind with a move back to South America with Independiente and Racing Club in Argentina named as possible destinations.

Yepes has appeared 102 times for Colombia and led the Cafeteros to their best ever FIFA World Cup performance in Brazil 2014, reaching the quarter-finals before losing to the host nation 2-1.
