Empoli acquired Diego Laxalt and Matias Vecino on loan from Inter and Fiorentina, respectively to bolster their chances in Serie A.

The Tuscany-based club was promoted to the top flight last season after finishing second to Palermo in Serie B, and it will be their first season in Serie A since 2007-2008.

The club announced on Wednesday that they had acquired Diego Laxalt and Matias Vecino from Inter and Fiorentina, respectively, and that both players will likely be introduced to the press on Saturday.

Laxalt was the subject of attention from Spanish side Almeira but the winger ultimately chose to remain in Serie A.

“He wants to give his best in Serie A because his objective is to return to Inter as well as Inter prefer that he is in Italy to follow him better,” his agent Vincenzo D’Ippolito told TuttoMarcatoWeb.

The Uruguayan footballer made 15 appearances last season while on loan with Bologna, scoring twice.

Vecino likewise is a Uruguayan midfielder with experience at the U20 level internationally.  His goal against Argentina in the 2011 South American Youth Championship qualified Uruguay for the 2012 Olympic Games.

In seven appearances for the Viola last season, he failed to score but did score twice in nine appearances on loan to Cagliari.
