Former Arsenal goalkeeper returns to England but Cagliari move isn’t in doubt

Former Arsenal and Watford goalkeeper Manuel Almunia looks set to join Cagliari next week, despite returning to England on Friday.

Almunia is a free agent following the expiry of his Watford contract at the end of last season, looked set to join new coach Zdenek Zeman’s revolution at the Sardinian side but returned to London on Friday, causing doubts over the potential move for the experienced Spaniard.

But, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the deal is set to be completed on Monday after Almunia returns from dealing with a personal matter in London.

The deal is believed to have gone as far the player having a medical so all that is left for the contract to be signed before the 37 year old can link up with his new team.

Almunia will join Zdenek Zeman’s revolution at the Isolani, where 12 players have transferred to the club on loan or permanent deals since the legendary coach took charge this summer.
