Manchester United have turned their attention to AC Milan’s defensive midfielder Nigel de Jong after failing to sign Arturo Vidal from Juventus.
United vice-chairman Ed Woodward held talks with the De Jong’s representatives over a possible move to Old Trafford, earlier this week, despite the 29-year-old being regarded as an important member of Filippo Inzaghi’s side.
SportMediaset reports that the Dutch midfielder could be reunited with Louis van Gaal for a fee of €10 million, with his former national coach reportedly a huge admirer of the player.
De Jong was with United’s city rivals Manchester City for three years before moving to Milan in 2012. The Rossoneri endured a difficult last campaign in the Serie A in which the Dutch midfielder made 33 appearances.
