Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini today confirmed that Matija Nastasic is not part of his plans for the coming season and is open to offers for the player.

The Chilean manager praised Nastasic but was clear the future for the talented Serbian defender lay elsewhere.

Speaking at a press conference Pellegrini said : “Matija needs to play. We already have important players here with four centre-backs, [Martin] Demichelis, [Vincent] Kompany, [Eliaquim] Mangala and [Dedryck] Boyata.

“He is an important player but he has offers and I think the best thing for him is to play.”

The former Fiorentina centre back has been heavily rumoured to be leaving the English champions this Summer and the latest developments indicate it is now a matter of when and not if he will move on in this transfer window.

His Serie A experience with La Viola may make a return to Italy a possibility, with Fiorentina, Juventus and Roma all linked, although, should he decide to stay in England, Arsenal and Manchester United are also said to have been alerted to his availability.
