Inter’s Matias Silvestre could rejoin former club Palermo after Sampdoria’s interest in the center back waned.

The 29 year old Argentine joined Inter from Palermo in the summer of 2012 after a stunning debut season for Palermo, but the player never established himself with the Nerazzurri and was last season loaned out to city rivals AC Milan, where he again failed to win a first team place.

With a sale likely this summer both Sampdoria and Palermo were believed to have made contact with the Nerazzurri over taking the player, but according to fcinternews.it Sampdoria have now withdrawn from negotiations as they focus on other targets.

Although there is also interest from abroad, particularly from Germany and Turkey, Silvestre has made clear his desire to remain in Italy, and a return Sicily with Palermo would be beneficial to all parties involved.
