Serie A newcomers Palermo are reportedly nearing the purchase of Columbus Crew defender Giancarlo Gonzalez.
The imminence of the deal was confirmed by the player’s coach Gregg Berhalter.
“Gonzalez will play in Serie A,” Berhalter told the press.
The 26-year old is only in his first season with the Crew after a two-year spell with Norwegian side Valerenga, but the board sees benefit from the sale of the Costa Rican international.
“This move will help our cash register,” Berhalter said. “It’s an excellent opportunity for everybody.”
Gonzalez’s value was increased after his performances at the World Cup in Brazil this summer, where he played a crucial role in his side becoming the absolute sensation of the tournament, reaching the quarterfinals.
