Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers has acknowledged the calculated risk he has taken after moving for Mario Balotelli, but remains optimistic his decision will pay out.

Balotelli made his return to the Premier League joing Liverpool this past Monday after the controversial Italian striker completed a €20 million switch from AC Milan to Anfield.

Rodgers addressed his newest signing at a press conference following his side’s defeat to Manchester City.

“He is a world-class talent and it is an area we need to strengthen,” Rodgers said.

“It is a calculated risk but one where we believe we can help him as a player and to mature as a young man.

“I’m certainly looking forward to playing with him. One thing he doesn’t lack is confidence. He has that belief and football arrogance and the best teams have that.”

Balotelli who will wear the No. 45 shirt at Liverpool could make his debut when the Reds take on Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday.
