Swansea City chase Napoli defender

Federico Fernandez NapoliSwansea City are reportedly after Napoli’s Argentine centre-back Federico Fernandez, as they look to replace Chico Flores who is set to follow former manager Michael Laudrup to Qatari club Lekhwiya.

The 25-year-old is reportedly unsettled in Serie A having only made 36 appearances for the Naples club since his €3 million switch from Estudiantes in 2011 and has also spent a loan spell at Getafe in 2013.

The Daily Mirror reports that Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins is ready to make a bid of around €10m for the Argentine international with the player keen to quit Rafa Benitez’s side in order to play in the English Premier League.

Fernandez did feature regularly last season though, making 25 starts in the league, then featuring in three matches for Argentina during the World Cup before missing the latter stages of the tournament through injury.
