Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has denied reports claiming that the English club would be open to selling Joel Campbell this summer.

The 22-year-old forward has become a target of multiple European teams after his impressive performances for Costa Rica at the World Cup this summer, with Serie A side AC Milan being seen as one of his main pursuers, though Wenger has reiterated his intentions to have the former Olympiacos man remain with the Gunners.

Wenger spoke to the press after Arsenal’s 5-1 Emirates Cup win over Benfica on Saturday about the Premier League side’s plans to keep Campbell and team-mate Yaya Sanogo.

“It’s true that Campbell and Sanogo need to play more, but they need to play more here with us,” said the 64-year-old tactician.

The two young forwards provided all five of Arsenal’s goals in their dominating victory over Benfica, with Campbell scoring one and the 21-year-old Sanogo scoring the other four.
