Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel has said that he is “very happy” to have finally joined Serie A side AC Milan on loan.

The Dutch midfielder is set to join teammate Fernando Torres at the Rossoneri, having signed the deal on Monday.

Speaking to Milan Channel, the 21-year-old midfielder said that Dutch midfielder Nigel De Jong played a sizeable role in him joining the club.

“I am very happy,” he said. “Milan is a great club where many big name Dutch players have played.

“I’m happy to be here at last; I know Nigel De Jong from my experiences with the national team and he told me good things about the club.

“I have not met him here yet, but I’ll see him soon.”

The former Vitesse man then described his playing style, saying that he can both defend and score.

“I’m a midfielder who defends,” he said. “But I also know how to score goals.

“I’m a player who can play all over the pitch; I want to be important for the team, I’m a team player, I want to meet Mr. [Filippo] Inzaghi.

“I want to play my games, accumulating many minutes and I think with AC Milan I will have the opportunity to play these games in a great competition, with many strong teams.

“This is the goal of this season. I have not talked to coach [Filippo] Inzaghi, but I spoke with Fernando Torres this week. He came here and talked well of Milan.”
