Schelotto, who has joined the Flying Donkeys on a season-long loan from Inter and was loaned to both Parma and Sassuolo last season, believes that he was made a scapegoat for the Nerazzurri’s disappointing ninth-place finish in the 2012-13 Serie A season.
“With Mazzarri I never had a chance to prove my worth,” the 25-year-old told calciomercato.com.
“Despite all being in the same boat, some prefer to put the blame on individuals because sometimes it makes everything easier.
“For this reason I no longer had a place, from that year onwards.
“I was expecting at least another opportunity.”
Schelotto also praised Chievo coach Eugenio Corini and thanked former club Atalanta.
“Corini immediately made a big impression on me,” he continued.
“I like how he works: never gives up, demands that we all fight together.
“He wants this group to be safe from relegation, as soon as possible.
“I [also] want to say to that I gave everything for the [Atalanta] shirt, that brought me up to the Italian national team.
“I still have many friends that I often hear from in Bergamo, I wish Atalanta all the best.”
