Fiorentina striker Giuseppe Rossi is set to miss the next four to five months after undergoing knee surgery on Friday.

Rossi, who has fought through a injury plagued last few seasons, did not feature in the Viola’s opening day Serie A loss against Roma this past Saturday.

The American born Italian international picked up an injury to his right leg in training last month and is now set to miss up to five months after going diagnostic keyhole surgery.

The exploratory procedure included the player’s meniscus being stitched though the previous damaged cruciate ligament is showing good signs.

After only returning from injury last January, Rossi enjoyed an excellent finish with Fiorentina last season but was ultimatley left out of the Italian squad this past World Cup due to concerns from former Azzurri coach Cesare Prandelli over the 27-year-old’s fitness.

Rossi managed to register 16 goals in just 22 appearances for Fiorentina during their 2013-14 Serie A campaign.
