Roma coach Rudi Garcia is hopeful that the Giallorossi’s work over the summer window will allow his side to be ready to challenge Juventus for the Scudetto.

The Giallorossi finished 17 points adrift of Juve last season, but enjoyed a record-breaking season, achieving the club’s highest ever Serie A points total (85); most wins in a single season (26); and winning their first 10 games at the start of the season, a Serie A record.

Despite the successful debut season with the capital club, Garcia admitted he is looking to close the gap to the Bianconeri when speaking to Canal +.

“Our ambition is to do the best we can,” said the Frenchman.

“Juve have won the last three Scudetto’s, haven’t sold anyone and have bought people like Morata and Evra, so I think they’re the favourites.

“However we will do everything we can, and this summer we redoubled our efforts [in the transfer market] to try to get as close as possible.”

Garcia also dismissed suggestions that this season’s championship would be a two-horse race.

“It’s not just Juve and Roma. Napoli are a very good team, with a lot of money, and then there are the two Milan clubs, who have gotten stronger. I think it will be a great season, and a very hard-fought one.”
