Genoa have firmly rebuked the suggestion that club is under investigation by FIFA for failing to pay €600,000 to Palmeiras for the transfer of Anselmo in 2012.

It was reported by a Brazilian source that FIFA’s disciplinary committee had been notified by Palmeiras that they had not received the money before the deadline of August 5 and the Grifone could face sanctions that included point deductions or even relegation.

However, the club announced on their official website that the reports were false and they had not been contacted by FIFA.

“In response to news from a Brazilian source, according to which the club is undergoing proceedings for the transfer of Anselmo it should be clarified that GENOA CFC have not received any notification from the FIFA disciplinary committee that a case has been opened against the club,” read the official statement.

“Any reference to alleged penalties or other sanctions is entirely unfounded.”

The defensive midfielder Anselmo made only five appearances for the Rossoblu in 2012 before a short spell with Palermo in 2013 that was followed with a return to Brazil.
