Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez has spoken out regarding his hostile treatment at the international level with Germany.

Gomez, who took part in Germany’s most recent friendly match up against Argentina, was the subject of boos from the German fans after their 4-2 defeat this past week.

The 29-year-old striker spoke in an interview with Die Welt and addressed his thoughts on the hostile reception he has received during his most recent international call up.

“I’m used to it, there is always a lot of hype surrounding myself .Why, I do not know.” Gomez said.

“Even before the game there was a ‘new beginning for Gomez’ speech. I was not there for half a year, but before that I was an important part of the team.

“Against Argentina, I was highly motivated. I could have grabbed a goal that got me in the situations but I decided wrongly. In the stadium they started immediately to boo again.

“There are obviously still many people who believe that I should not have made my return to the national team.”

Gomez will be looking to restore the form that made him a marquee striker with Bayern Munich after suffering an injury last season that kept him out of much action during his Serie A season debut with Fiorentina.
