Roma’s final summer acquisition, Jose Holebas, believes his new club have both the desire and talent to win the Serie A title this term.
The Greece international became the second Olympiacos player to join the Giallorossi this summer – following the capture of centre-back Kostas Manolas – and the German born 30-year-old expressed his delight at joining the capital club during his presentation to the media on Wednesday.
“Hello and thank you everyone, I am very happy to be here.” Holebas begun.
“I was aware of Roma’s interest during the World Cup and I had offers elsewhere however I chose Roma because they are a great club with European prestige.”
The Greek left-back was then asked about his preferred playing position as well his decision to take a two-year break from the game when he was just 18-years-old after his girlfriend fell pregnant.
“At 18-years-old I stopped playing for off-field, personal, reasons that required me to dedicate myself to more important things – a daughter.” Holebas continued “However I saw my teammates enjoy success at big clubs and I told myself ‘no I must play again'”
“Predominately I am an attacking left-back but I will do my best to contribute what is necessary for the team. I can also play centrally however its up to the coach to decide.”
The former Olympiacos man has a career tally of 29 goals and 37 assists and his addition to Rudi Garcia’s squad means that along with Manolas and Vasilis Torosidis, the Lupi now posses three of Greece’s starting back four, a factor the 30-year-old believes can only strengthen the team.
“Clearly its an advantage for me, what I will say is that we [I, Kostas Manolas and Vasilis Torosidis] already have a good understanding.”
