Supercoppa_Italiana_logoThe Supercoppa Italiana  between Serie A champions Juventus and Coppa Italia winners Napoli could be contested in Doha, Qatar.

The annual fixture is usually played before the season begins, however, this year’s edition will be played in December. One reason for the delay is the lack of agreement over a venue to host the match.

According La Gazzetta Dello Sport, marketing director of Lega Serie A, Fabio Santoro has visited Qatar, with the government of the middle-eastern country willing to pay €2.5 million to host the game, as well as paying the expenses of both teams and committing to promote Italian football in the country.

It is believed that while Juventus favour the Qatari option, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis would prefer to play the match in Turin or Milan to protect fans and to avoid inconveniencing players. A decision should be made by Monday.
