Lazio defender Michael Ciani had reportedly turned down a move to Swansea City earlier in the summer in hopes of exploring his other options.

The 30-year-old was linked with a move to several other Premier League clubs throughout the summer transfer window including Stoke City and West Ham United, with the Hammers being seen as the closest to landing him on a season-long loan during the final day of the transfer market, though he ultimately ended up remaining with the Biancocelesti.

According to LaLazioSiamoNoi.it, Swansea had opened negotiations with Lazio for the former Bordeaux man before they decided to pursue Napoli’s Federico Fernandez and had come to an agreement with club president Claudio Lotito and sporting director Igli Tare, only to be rejected by the player and his representatives in the end.

The centre-back, whose current contract with the Aquilotti is set to expire at the end of the 2014-15 season, was thought to be in favour of a move to West Ham and was apparently upset after a transfer failed to materialise.
