Former Lazio midfielder Fabio Liverani announced that he believes his old club are capable of qualifying for the Europa League.

The 38-year-old also added that he was impressed by what he saw from both teams in AC Milan’s 3-1 win over the Biancocelesti on August 31.

“Against Milan, I saw a good Lazio,” said Liverani to to Radio IES.

“They lost because of a few isolated episodes and they met a Milan side that nobody was expecting, one that was humble but skilful and lucky enough to open the scoring early on.”

“My compliments go to [Filippo] Inzaghi but I do believe that Lazio have built an excellent squad.

“[Stefano] Pioli has put a lot of work in and you can see that on the pitch.

“It’s obvious that it is a team with an idea of how it wants to play, the will to win the ball quickly high up the pitch and near the opposition’s goal.

“They want to defend one on one and these are things you don’t see very often in Italy.”

The former Italy international also added he feels a good if not spectacular league position is most likely for the Aquile and Europa League qualification should be the main objective:

“The Europa League is on the doorstep of the Biancocelesti, who however, remain behind Fiorentina, Napoli and Fiorentina in aiming for the Champions League.”
