Marco Di Vaio Montreal ImpactMontreal Impact star Marco Di Vaio has confirmed he will return to Italy at the end of the Major League Soccer season.

The 38 year old former Italian international striker has been a big success in the MLS since making the move there from Bologna in 2012.

“My future? At the end of the season, I will return to Italy, I’m sorry, but my family is back in Italy after a year and I can not do without them,” Di Vaio told So Foot.

“The MLS has a big future, this league will compete with those in Europe. Many big players are coming here to try it out.

China, the Middle East and other destinations only attract players nearing retirement [unlike the MLS].

“The Serie A has not grown, because there is less money than before, but we have great coaches and good recruiters, which can attract young talent.

“It’s no coincidence that Thiago Silva, Cavani, Pastore arrived. Before everyone wanted to move to Italy to play in the best league in the world, now it is no longer so.”

Di Vaio then spoke about the current crop of Italian strikers, and stated his admiration for Borussia Dortmund signing Ciro Immobile.

I love him, he is fast, modern. I thought he would go to Juventus or Milan, and instead he went to Dortmund.

I also like [Mattia] Destro, a player similar to Inzaghi, but [Mario] Balotelli, he has to prove his consistency. Then I also think of El Shaarawy.

They can take advantage of the crisis in the Serie A.”
