Sampdoria claimed all three points after defeating Genoa 1-0 on Sunday night in a hotly contested derby that lacked quality from a footballing perspective for most of the part.
Manolo Gabbiadini’s freekick was the difference at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris although it was helped on its way to the bottom corner by the merest of glances by Sebastien De Maio that left goalkeeper Mattia Perin rooted to his spot.

Genoa
Mattia Perin – 5.5 – Average
Dominant in the air, poor with his distribution and wasn’t tested apart from the goal.
Facundo Roncaglia – 6.5 – Commanding
No nonsense defending throughout. Was the rock at the back for Genoa.
Sebastien De Maio – 6 – Unlucky
Solid for most of the match. Could only help the ball on its way to the goal.
Nicolas Burdisso – 6.5 – Reliable
Pretty decent before being subbed off due to injury.
Luca Antonelli – 6.5 – Industrious
Was assigned to keep Gabbiadini quiet which he did well. Didn’t offer much going forward
Tomas Rincon – 7 – Tidy
Completed 95 percent of his passes and kept the ball ticking in the centre midfield as well as breaking forward from time to time.
Stefano Sturaro – 5 – Frustrating
Tried too hard but wasn’t up to the mark overall. Was booked when he fouled the goalscorer out of frustration.
Edenilson – 4 – Poor
Lacked quality and was dispossessed down the left wing quite a few times.
Juraj Kucka – 5.5 – Unimpressive
Didn’t find much joy with no help from Antonelli though he did produce the ball of the match for Perotti early in the second half.
Mauricio Pinilla – 7 – Determined
Ran his guts off chasing defenders everywhere and was Genoa’s best player on the night.
Diego Perotti – 7 – Livewire
Troubled down Sampdoria’s left side throughout the game whipping in a whooping 10 crosses.

The experienced campaigner was solid at the back.

Made the match highest ten clearances as he kept the enemy at bay.

The other option on the wing wasn’t up to scratch and ended up completing the least passes in the match.
