Chievo goalkeeper Christian Puggioni has revealed that he has been left out of the Gialloblu squad due to his refusal to join Genoa this summer.

The 33-year-old was apparently lined up to join the Grifone in a swap deal that involved Albano Bizzarri going the other way, though Bizzarri has now completed his move to the Flying Donkeys anyway, and he has admitted that his reason for not wanting to join the Rossoblu is based around his lifelong love for their rivals Sampdoria, the team he grew up supporting.

Puggioni spoke to reporters about his current situation with Chievo and commented on his unwillingness to ever play for Genoa.

“Chievo had threatened me to accept an exchange with Bizzarri,” said the Genoa native.

“However, I refused, so they have left me out of the squad as a way to try and convince me to join Genoa.

“I will not go play for Genoa, I’m a true Sampdoria fan and I will not sell myself out.”
