Francesco Totti has made a career out of setting and breaking records – a trend that continued for the Roma hitman in Champions League action on Tuesday night.

His first half equaliser against English champions Manchester City not only won his side a point, and brought him his first goal on English soil, but made him the oldest man ever to hit the back of the net in the competition.

At 38 years of age and three days, having celebrated his 38th birthday in the 2-0 win over Hellas Verona on Saturday, his goal moved him above Ryan Giggs who had previously held the record at 37-years-old and 295 days.

In typical Totti fashion though, the Giallorossi captain was quick to shrug off his new record when speaking about the feat after the match.

“I honestly was not thinking about the record,” he insisted. “I think more about helping out the team than helping myself.

“When the team then helps you to get the goal then they play an important part for the record but I am more focused on the team.”
