Chievo 0 Juventus 1Serie A champions Juventus are the only club to have increased their wage bill for the new campaign as most clubs have made drastic cuts.

The Serie A has found itself in a state of financial stagnation and these latest figures indicate that the league is falling further behind its European counterparts.

According to a report in Gazzetta dello Sport, Serie A clubs are spending a combined €849 million on wages this season, a significant decrease from €1.1 billion in 2011.

Juventus’ wage spending has reached €118m,  in large part due to keeping star players Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal this summer.

The next highest spenders are Roma on €98m buoyed by their return to the Champions League. Interestingly, Roma also boast the league’s highest paid player in Daniele De Rossi who reportedly earns €6.5m a year.

AC Milan have reduced their spending from €105 million to €94 million as a result of the departures of Kaka, Robinho and Mario Balotelli.

Inter, who started the summer with a wage bill of  €95m, have dramatically cut their spending to €70m after saying goodbye to Javier Zanetti, Diego Milito, Esteban Cambiasso and Walter Samuel to bring them level with Napoli.

At the other end of the table Sassuolo have increased their wage bill €28m while Parma have reduced their spending to €20m from last season’s €29m.
