Southampton forward Graziano Pelle has explained why he found the adaption to English football quite challenging early on.
The former Italian Under-21 international has enjoyed an excellent start to the season with three goals in four Premier League matches.
“At the beginning of the season it was not easy because I needed to find my peak physical fitness,” he told Southampton’s official website.
“When I switched leagues from the Eredivisie, I found the football here is completely different, now I have begun to understand.”
Pelle was a prolific goalscorer in Holland under current Saints coach Ronald Koeman scoring 55 goals in 66 matches in total.
“I’m a positive person,” the 29 year-old continued.” My job is to score, but I know that I can improve.”
The towering striker has never been called up by his national team and has been critical of Serie A in the past.
