Speaking to the press after the match Toni stressed the importance of getting their first win in front of the home fans.
“It was important to get a result, it was our first game at home and we wanted the three points against a direct rival,” he said.
“We had many difficulties, we did not have a great game and had a very bad start but we recovered.”
Verona have lost a number of key players since last season including Romulo, Jorginho and Juan Manuel Iturbe.
“We have 15 new players who don’t know the league but I think we have a good mixing of youth and experience,” he continued.
“Our coach is good with young players and I think that could prove vital.”
Toni has met the Rosanero eight times since leaving in 2005 but has only scored twice in those meetings.
