Fiorentina midfielder Borja Valero has told reporters in Italy that he considers striker Giuseppe Rossi’s latest injury to be a huge blow for the club.

Having suffered a recurrence of an injury to his right knee, it was announced that Rossi is set to be on the sidelines for up to five months.

And, speaking to Sky Sport Italia following Fiorentina’s friendly defeat to Lugano on Friday, Valero was frank in his assessment of the difference the injury could make.

“It’s a tough blow to take as he’s a hugely important player for us,” he explained.

“All we can do is wish him good luck and hope to see him on the pitch again soon.

“We lose so much without him in the side but we have other strong attackers who will do well. He’s a guy that loves football so I hope he’ll be back soon.”

Rossi has had terrible luck with injuries throughout his career and his most recent setback represents the latest in a string of spells on the sidelines. In the 2013-14 Serie A campaign he managed 21 appearances, scoring 16 goals in the process.
