Napoli midfielder Jorginho made a surprise appearance outside Naples cathedral on Thursday night, playing football with a group of street kids.

The Brazilian-born Italian international approaches the kids, and asks for the ball. One disbelieving child asks: “Are you Jorginho?”, to which the midfielder replies “Yes, I am Jorginho,” before dribbling with the ball and posing for photos with the children.

Naples is one of the poorest cities in Europe, with the Borgen Project reporting that 54,000 children in the region dropped out of school in the period between 2005 and 2009 to begin working.

Corriere Dello Sport said of Jorginho’s gesture: “It’s a beautiful snapshot of a city where kids do not have space to play football, so they play anywhere, even in front of the cathedral, even despite the obstacles which are there. Because you never know, there might be a miracle. You might get to exchange passes with a Napoli player.”
