Sassuolo striker Simone Zaza has expressed his pleasure at his call-up to Antonio Conte’s first Italy squad and vowed to show the best of himself.

The former Juventus forward scored a scorching volley for the Neroverde in their opening game of the season against Cagliari to seal his call-up for the games against the Netherlands and Norway.

He revealed his delight to be part of Conte’s squad in a press conference at Coverciano.

“Its a great pleasure to be here,” he enthused. “A new experience and a reward for Sassuolo.”

“Its going to be a wonderful experience,” he went on, “and I will try to be at my best. Conte has had a positive impact, I knew he was showing interest in me.”

While still to make his international debut, Zaza admitted that he still had more to prove.

“I will commit myself to playing for my club, and then we’ll see,” he acknowledged. “This is just the starting point for me.”
