Demetrio Albertini does not side with FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio in introducing video replay into Serie A matches.

Although the new president has agreed to allow Italy to be used as an example as FIFA seeks to introduce the new technology, the former AC Milan midfielder thinks that it will not be a good option and could prove to be disruptive to the flow of the game.

“If it’s regarding whether a ball crossed the line or not, then definitely, I’m in favor of it,” he stated to Sky Sport Italia.

“However, as for introducing video replays during the game, then absolutely not. Besides, mistakes made by referees and even players are simply part of the game.”

Albertini, who had unsuccessfully run for the president position and lost to Tavecchio in spite of the latter’s racist comments, also touched on his failed election campaign and his possible future plans.

“Well, I love this sport and will try to continue to make myself useful, but for now, I think I’m going to take a short holiday.

“Tavecchio has to work to do good things for football, and we’ll see if he succeeds. Everyone has to lend a hand in order to achieve the changes that we desire.

“[In terms of] future roles? I did more in my 20 years as a player than I did in my eight as an executive. But I’m calm, relaxed, even after my resignation and we’ll see what happens.”
