Former Juventus and Napoli striker Nicola Amoruso believes that Lazio’s Filip Djordjevic will only improve under head coach Stefano Pioli.

Djordjevic hit a hat-trick on Saturday as Lazio smashed Palermo 4-0 and Amoruso explained why he believed the ex-Nantes man is a player that will only improve in the future.

“We always make quick judgements in Italy so we’ve got to be careful but Djordjevic has already shown that he has great qualities, not only against Palermo, but in other games too.” Amoruso told Radio IES.

”His main talent is that he’s always responsive and ready to hit the back of the net when he gets the chance, which is the greatest quality any striker can have.

”Serbs have always had great qualities, both physically and technically, so it’s not a surprise.’’

Amoruso, who hit 113 Serie A goals over the course of his career, believes that Pioli is the right man to harness the Serbian striker’s talent.

”Pioli will have to work to help him improve but I’m very confident in his ability to do that,” the striker continued.

”I played with him at Padova and although at that point in his career, he was having lot of knee problems that eventually ended his career there, he has the right ideas and is very clear in what he wants.’’

Despite the Biancocelesti only recording their second victory of the season at the weekend, the 40-year-old explained how believes it is only a matter of time before Pioli starts to get the best out of his players.

”He plays great football and I am ready to bet you he will do fine with Lazio,” Amoruso said.

”He transmits his idea of football to his players with great effect, loves the sport and is very serious and professional.

”The group at Lazio will be very satisfied if they follow him and will do well because he combines a professional quality with a human side that few can match.’’

Amoruso also confirmed that he was very close to joining Lazio back in 2007 but the move fell through at the last minute.

‘’The move was practically made back in 2007, (Reggina president) Lillo Fotti and (Lazio president) Claudio Lotito had agreed the deal but then suddenly everything changed – I’m not really sure why.’’
