Fiorentina forward Khouma Babacar believes his strike in the Viola’s 3-0 win against Inter last Sunday was the most important goal of his career to date.

The Senegalese striker scored his second Serie A goal of the season against the Nerazzurri and is currently deputising for the injured Mario Gomez and Giuseppe Rossi.

“I celebrated that over a pizza with friends,” the 21-year-old told RadioBlu at a Save the Children charity event in Rome.

“But the coach told me that I must learn to also score the ugly goals – I still have to work very hard.

“The goal was very important for me, perhaps my most important, because I faced [Samir] Handanovic.

“I’m always at the coach’s disposal, depending on whether I am partnered with Gomez or [Federico] Bernardeschi.

“The fans are great, they are always close to the team.”

Babacar also spoke of his satisfaction at being given an opportunity with Fiorentina after loan spells at Racing Santander, Padova and Modena over the last three seasons.

“I have always been the same. I always try to think positively and want to improve each day,” he continued.

“I never thought about leaving, but my adventure in Florence could have ended.

“I always said to myself, ‘one day you will return to Florence’.

“I have to thank my agent and family for helping me.”
