Conte - Norway v Italy

Italy coach Antonio Conte said that his side deserved to beat Azerbaijan by a wider scoreline.

The Azzurri defeated Berti Vogts’ men 2-1 at the Stadio Renzo Barbera on Friday night, and the former Juventus boss has said that the scoreline does not reflect the flow of the game.

“I have to criticise the boys,” he told Rai. “We had to finish off the game because the outcome could’ve been much worse; they scored their goal from a corner without registering a shot at goal.”

Conte then went on to give his insight about the game, as well as saying that his side deserved to win by a wider scoreline.

“[Sebastian] Giovinco had to come on for [Simone] Zaza,” he said. “However, we then conceded an unexpected goal.

“Zaza and [Ciro] Immobile? They played really well and had chances to score.

“Azerbaijan were man-marking our players, had [Claudio] Marchisio scored early on it would’ve been very different.

“Overall, we deserved to win by a wider scoreline.”

It is also worth mentioning that Italy are set to face Malta on Monday in Ta’Qali in an aim to take their tally to nine points.
