Matteo Darmian ItalyItaly defender Matteo Darmian is confident that the Azzurri can take all three points against Group H rivals Croatia when the two sides meet.

Speaking after Italy’s 1-0 win against Malta on Monday night, the defender also admitted how difficult it was to breach the regimented Malta backline.

“It’s difficult to create chances against teams who close up completely,” he said to Rai Sport.

“We lacked some vigour, which would’ve helped us score more goals. We have to continue on this road, working with humility and dedication to do well.

“The match against Croatia? We will do our best, I am convinced we will play a great match.”

The 24-year-old Torino man was placed into the back three for the match and proclaimed that he was ready to step into the role.

“I gave the coach [Antonio Conte] my availability for the role and he decided,” he said.

“I have played this role in the last few days but also in the past.”
