Fiorentina striker Giuseppe Rossi is facing more time on the sidelines, as he recovers from knee surgery.

The Italy international has endured a career plagued by a persistent knee problem, and missed almost half of last season through the condition.

The player is now off crutches, but is still in the United States as he undergoes routine checks to maintain his recovery, according to FirenzeViola.it.

Once the 27-year-old has completed rehabilitation, he will be given the all-clear to return to La Viola training which is expected to be mid-November rather than in October as first hoped.

Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella is reportedly considering bringing in a short-term replacement for both Rossi and Mario Gomez, who is also injured.

Rossi scored 16 Serie A goals last season, in 22 appearances.
