Roma’s Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman is to be subject of a bid from Manchester United believed to be in the region of around €38 million, as Louis Van Gaal looks to extend his spending spree in order to rebuild his team.

Manchester United, despite having spent a total of €185 million during the summer transfer window, have disappointed at the start this season, sitting seventh in the Premier League with just eight points from six games.

Despite the fact that Roma president Walter Sabatini recently stated that Strootman, 24, is not for sale, the Daily Express believes that if a bid of €38m size were to be made Roma could well sell. Roma signed Strootman for €17m in 2013, so a profit of over €20m could be attractive.

Roma coach Rudi Garcia reportedly said that the deal was out of his hands, when asked if  Strootman was for sale, “You’ll have to ask our president,” he replied.

Strootman was coached by Van Gaal during his spell with the Dutch National Team, although the player missed the World Cup through injury.
